How to remove grout haze
The best way to remove grout haze from tiles
Grout haze is an off-white film that is left on the surface of the tile after grouting.
Ordinary cleaning wont effectively remove grout haze. Help is at hand though thanks to low-cost specialist products such as Fila Instant Grout Remover that can make light work of removing any grout haze on the surface of your new kitchen or bathroom tiles.
Make sure to carry on reading for practical advice from Tile Warehouse on removing grout haze from floor and wall tiles.
What is grout haze?
When grouting you would normally apply your grout across your tiles using a rubber grout float.
This ensures that your grout is spread evenly across your tile. And while the grout float will remove the majority of the grout from the surface of the tile, invariably a thin layer of grout remains on the surface of the tile otherwise known as grout haze.
The best way to remove grout haze: step by step guide
Step 1
Allow the grout time to initially set and become firm in the grout joints. Always follow the grout manufacturers instructions but generally its around 15 to 30 minutes.
Step 2
Once the grout has set wipe the surface of the tiles with a damp sponge and clean water.
Step 3
Next spray a product such as Fila Instant Grout Remover evenly over the tiles and leave them for 1 to 2 minutes to react. Then using a fresh sponge clean your tiles again, rinsing the sponge regularly to ensure the sponge always remains clean.
Step 4
If there is any grout haze remaining, we would recommend repeating the cleaning process again after an hour.
Step 5
Products such as Fila Instant Grout Remover should only be used during the installation process. If youve not been able to clean the grout haze at this time, we would recommend using equally environmentally friendly products such as Fila Porcelain Cement Residue Remover. This can be used on grout which has cured on the surface of a tile.
What tools do you need to remove grout haze?
Thankfully the list of tools youll need for removing grout haze is minimal. We would recommend the following:
- Sponges
- Gloves
- Bucket
- Grout remover
